Fat Transfer, Lipofilling
Stand-alone therapy against hair loss or with Hair Transplant
Over the last decade, in the field of medicine, fat grafting (fat transfer, lipofilling) has been given special attention to its potential. It is undoubtedly one of the most promising non-surgical therapies for hair loss. Dr. Greg Pataki has gained a lot of experience in Hungary and abroad for using autologous fat transfer treatment, so we can safely say that he is among the leaders in further developing and utilizing this therapy.
What are stem cells?
Stem cells are cells that are able to differentiate into specific cells. In fat grafting, the source of stem cells is the patient’s own fatty tissue, which contains the highest concentration of adult body cells in stem cells. Adult stem cells are able to divide and differentiate, so they play a great part in regenerating your body.
Why is it effective against hair loss?
To understand how stem cells can help with hair loss, it is important to know what processes are taking place in female and male hair loss. All the follicles contain stem cells, but in male hair loss, the hair follicles begin to shrink, become thinner, and at the end of the process they no longer stimulate hair growth. Stem cells derived from fat and injected into the scalp can activate the remaining hair follicles in the dormant phase to stimulate the growth of new hair. Additionally, it enhances vein formation and thus provides better nutrition for hair follicles.

How does Fat Grafting happen?
Details of the treatment
During autologous fat transfer (fat grafting, lipofilling), a liposuction is performed first to harvest fat tissue, usually from the abdomen. In local anesthesia, a small incision is made in the navel, then the donor area is filled with an anesthetic, an anti-hemorrhaging solution by a special cannula. This causes migration of stem cells that will be present at greater concentrations after 15 minutes when the liposuction takes place. There is no need for large quantities of fat for this technique, only 40-60 cm3. The process does not cause pain or discomfort. The extracted fat is purified by various methods, filtered, concentrated and then injected into the scalp. Haircut or hospital stay is not needed. On the first and second day, some swelling may occur on the scalp, but the daily routine can be continued without the need for a home rest. Our patients have to wear a special compression belt for 2-3 weeks because of the abdominal liposuction and exercising should be avoided during this period.
When is it recommended?
Autologous fat transfer (fat grafting, lipofilling) is a very good stand-alone therapy for both women and men with hair loss, as increases the rate of hair growth and the density of hair follicles. In case of hair transplantation, it is recommended as a supplementary treatment for maximum graft adhesion and hair survival, so for the perfect results.
